Wayne Rooney sets challenge for United

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney believes if they can beat Premier League leaders Arsenal on Sunday, it will put them right back in the title picture.

The Red Devils have suffered a slow start to the new campaign and currently find themselves in eighth position, a whopping eight points behind The Gunners going into the clash at Old Trafford.

However, a victory over Arsene Wenger’s men would leave them just five points behind and Rooney believes a win could put them right back in the frame.

“I think at the minute there’s 28 games to go, anything can happen, one result can turn the league on its head,” he said.

“We’re still within touching distance and to get a victory on Sunday will put us in a great position I think.”

The 27-year-old, who was wanted by Wenger this Summer, also hailed The Gunners strength ahead of the big-game on Sunday.

“I think they’ve got some great players and you know they’re a good team,” he said.

“I said the other day after the game it will be interesting to see if they can maintain that, certainly over the last six or seven years they’ve faded off.

“But they seem in a better place, they seem stronger so it will be interesting to see.”
