Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker has asked the midfielders at the club to help defend as well as create opportunities up front.
The Gunners have got a sensational midfield full of creative minds, but currently, they only really have one holding-midfielder, and that is Mathieu Flamini.
On Tuesday night, the North London side lost 2-1 at home to Borussia Dortmund after being hit on the counter in the last 10-minutes of the game, and Mertesacker has issued a plea to the midfielder to sit-back as well as attack.
“We know we are on a good run in the Premier League, but it needs more than just playing with full freedom and vision,” said the German.
“We need to defend first.
“Then we can switch the rest on. You have seen what can happen after that. We have players who can play so quickly together.
“Tomas Rosicky came in and fitted into everything as well as Mesut Ozil or Jack Wilshere. When those three combined together, you could feel some magic in the air, a real chemistry.”
