Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla has admitted that the players will not underestimate their opponents tonight in the FA Cup, especially after what happened last season.

The Gunners will host League One’s Coventry City in the Fourth Round and they will be eager to ensure they don’t suffer the same humiliation from last year.

Arsene Wenger’s men were eliminated from the competition by Championship side Blackburn Rovers after they were victorious at the Emirates Stadium, and that was also matched by defeat to Bradford City of League Two in the Capital One Cup.

Speaking ahead of the game, Cazorla is keen to make sure lightning doesn’t strike twice and he is confident that the players will be fully motivated to succeed.

“You have to think back to results like that when the competition comes around again,” the Spaniard told Arsenal Player. “Especially in this case as we’re up against a similar opponent to Blackburn last year.

“In that sense, we could have gone further in the competition but we were knocked out due to over-confidence, bad luck, and just what happens in a game of football. This led to excuses and regret.

“Football produces surprises every day and anything can happen in a game. If you underestimate an opponent, they can beat you.

“You have to approach these games in the best way possible and not get cocky or it will cost us dearly.”
