Manchester United have been given a boost in their attempts to sign Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has admitted that it could be time for Vermaelen to leave with the manager set to hold ‘showdown’ talks with the player over his future in the coming days.
It appears that United will be the likely destination for Vermaelen after United boss Van Gaal spoke of his desire to bring in a new centre-back at Old Trafford.
During his recent press conference Wenger explained why Vermaelen did not travel with the squad to Austria on Monday:
“Vermaelen is injured. It is a possibility that he goes.”
This has put the likes of United, Barcelona and Liverpool on alert who are all vying to beat one another to sign the Belgian.
