Who can Spurs bring in to replace Harry Kane if he leaves?

Tottenham’s all-time leading goalscorer Harry Kane has been the subject of intense speculation ahead of this summer’s transfer window. With the striker’s contract up as of summer 2024, time is running out for Spurs chairman Daniel Levy to make a decision on his prized asset. The prospect of watching a world-class talent leave next year on a free seems unfathomable and so it was forecast that this would finally be the window the England international would move elsewhere in a bid to add some silverware to his long list of accomplishments. A move to Manchester United seemed likely given his pursuit of the long-standing Premier League all-time goalscoring record. However, Levy’s asking price dealt a hammer blow to Erik Ten Hag’s hopes of landing the prolific forward. It was thought that would be the end of the Kane transfer saga for now given the lack of suitors that had emerged since the news broke of United’s withdrawal but Bayern Munich and PSG have since surfaced as potential destinations for the 29-year-old. With the increased interest in Tottenham’s star player and the inevitable incoming bid, the question becomes who could Ange Postecoglou possibly bring in to replace such a crucial cog in the Spurs machine? Heung Min Son and Richarlison seem like two players who could fit the mould given the time but realistically Spurs will need to bring in a long term solution to the void Kane would leave behind. With that said, here’s our look at a few potential replacements for Kane at Tottenham.

Jonathan David

Kane is 3/2 to be playing for Bayern next season according to new betting sites in the UK and so it’s important they find someone of a similar skill set to replace him and currently top of that list this summer is the prolific Candian. It is easy to see why. The young forward enjoyed the best scoring season of his career to date last season and finished behind only Kylian Mbappe and Alexandre Lacazette in the Ligue 1 scoring charts. His creativity and finishing qualities are the best you’re going to get for the price the 23-year-old is currently valued at and could be the markings of a prospect with a very similar style to Kane. He has also demonstrated a great level of versatility that could be of great use to Postecoglou in his first season of Premier League football, especially as he attempts to figure out a suitable formation and tactical arrangement. In the club’s current circumstances, they could benefit greatly from abandoning their status signing approach that saw them bring Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte to North London and instead opting for a more developmental one that worked wonders during Mauricio Pochettino’s tenure in the hot seat. Ready-to-go strikers aren’t going to be available to Spurs in a summer where Victor Osimhen is priced at more than double David’s value. There would be plenty of time for the forward to adapt to the Premier League and if he proved to be a success, Spurs will have a player with huge resale potential on their hands.

Evan Ferguson

Evan Ferguson burst onto the scene towards the back-end of the Premier League season in 2022/23, finishing the campaign as the top-scoring teenager in England’s top flight despite only starting ten games at Brighton. The 18-year-old scored 10 goals in all competitions to announce his arrival as one of the division’s most exciting young talents, and that tally has seen him gain a number of interested suitors including Manchester United, Liverpool, Newcastle as well as Postecoglou’s Spurs. His physicality and keen eye in front of goal have earned him comparisons to Kane and should the England international depart in the summer, the young Brighton centre forward could be another option to develop in his time in North London. The Republic of Ireland international has certainly made an impression at the Amex too with the Seagulls opting to sign him to a contract extension in April. He would be on the pricier side given that situation and the teenager could well end up sticking it out on the south coast for another season given the club’s recent success but Spurs, albeit in a bit of a tough spot right now, would certainly be a step up and a move that could lure him away.

Goncalo Ramos

Ramos was incredible in front of goal for Benfica last season, scoring 27 goals and providing 12 assists in his 47 appearances. He also impressed on the international stage coming in for the out of favour Cristiano Ronaldo to lead the attack. It was a bold call in such a crucial round of 16 encounter but his hat-trick and assist did more than enough to prove Fernando Santos right in making the decision. Other than sealing Portugal’s place in the last eight, it also proved that the 22-year-old was more than capable of making an impact on a big occasion, a characteristic that Spurs would love to make use of themselves. Ramos did a fine job of stepping into Darwin Nunez’s shoes at the Portuguese outfit and propelled them to title success. Reports suggest that the Benfica forward is a highly-sought after asset with bids in excess of £50 million already turned down this window so Spurs will likely have to spend big to acquire his services. Given a number of areas at Tottenham are in need of strengthening perhaps this signing is just out of reach, but if they wanted to solve the Harry Kane problem right away there would be few better options on the market than the Portuguese forward.

Randal Kolo Muani

One player not only among the list of names Spurs are interested in, but among the list of names Europe’s elite are interested in is Frankfurt marksman Kolo Muani. The 24-year-old is one of the most highly-rated strikers in European football right now having been one of only two players in Bundesliga last season to register double figures for both goals and assists. Signed on a free transfer from Nantes last summer, the Frenchman has made an immediate impact and helped Frankfurt reach the DFB-Pokal final. He is one of very few strikers available this window to offer as much goalscoring capability as he does chance creation and that would fit the bill not only in replacing Kane but also in a flexible attacking line that features Son, Richarlison and James Maddison. The Frenchman has made it clear that it would be his dream to play in England and Spurs could well make that a reality if they are prepared to an extraordinary fee to acquire his services.
