Wijnaldum keen to break derby drought

Newcastle midfielder Georgino Wijnladum is eager to win the first derby since 2011 for Newcastle on Sunday.

Newcastle will be looking for there second win of the season when they face arch rivals Sunderland on Sunday. In an Exclusive interview with FourFourTwo Wijnaldum spoke on the importance of taking 3 points from the Stadium Of Light.

The midfielder will be in good form going into Sunday’s after scoring 4 goals in there 6-2 victory against Norwich on Saturday.

Wijnaldum arrived in the summer from PSV for a reported fee of ÂŁ14.5 million and has managed 6 goals so far this term. Over his 4 year tenure at the Dutch giants he won the league title and was named ‘Dutch player of the season’, previous winners of this award include Barcelona star Luis Suarez. Wijnaldum, often refered to as ‘Gini’, is no stranger to derbies after featuring in serveral of them against Ajax when playing for PSV.

Ahead of Sunday’s Meeting Wijnaldum insists he understands what the Derby is all about

“When I walk down the street or go into the supermarket, Newcastle fans talk with me. They talk directly about this game against Sunderland.”

“I have already seen how much impact this game has for supporters. I see what they want from the players, we must try to win this game.”

“It’s not normal to score four goals in a game. I will try, but it will be hard. These are special moments in your career,” he said
