Wolfsburg deny deal is done with Luiz Gustavo

Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs has dismissed reports suggesting that the club had secured a deal to sign Bayern Munich midfielder and Arsenal target Luiz Gustavo.

Reports broke out last night that the Brazilian midfielder was ready to reject a move to the Premier League in order to stay in Germany after a ÂŁ17million bid was accepted by the German champions as they don’t see Gustavo being a permanent feature at the club.

Previous to these reports, it was believed that Arsenal were close to wrapping up the deal after they also had a ÂŁ17million bid accepted by Pep Guardiola’s side and it was thought they were in the driving seat because of Gustavo’s wish to be playing in the Champions League, something Arsenal could offer which Wolfsburg can’t.

Speaking in an interview, the Wolfsburg director admitted that a deal could be in place but he also refused that it was 100% complete.

He told reporters: “The chances are not bad but the deal is not done. To report that is just false.”

The coach of the Bundesliga outfit also moved quickly to deny any truth in the reports.

He told SID: “We can’t confirm the transfer yet. He has been with the Selecao, so we haven’t had more talks.

“But we hope he will decide for Wolfsburg. Of course we know there are several other clubs interested.”
