Lucas Moura tells Oscar to join PSG

0

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Lucas Moura has joined team-mate Yohan Cabaye by trying to persuade a Chelsea player to join the Ligue 1 outfit.

Just days after Cabaye issued a plea to Eden Hazard to join the French side, Lucas has now admitted that he would love his countryman to join the French revolution as well.

According to numerous reports, PSG are willing to spend up to ÂŁ41million on Oscar, and could also spend ÂŁ90m on signing both Oscar and Hazard, and just a week before the two are scheduled to face in the Champions League, Lucas has admitted that he’d love his Brazilian team-mate to join the club.

“Oscar is a very good player,” Moura told the Daily Telegraph. “A rare talent in today’s football, given his qualities.

“He is very complete and is very smart. We need someone like him at PSG.

“I think he would help us a lot. The more quality players there are, the better it is for the squad.

“Also, he’s a very good friend of mine. I would be very happy if he came to PSG, the club too.”

Mark Lawrenson predictions for weekend

BBC pundit thinks Manchester City will see off Arsenal at the Emirates

It’s that time of the week again when BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson gives his predictions for this weekend’s Premier League matches, and below you can see who he fancies this time around.

Manchester United 2-0 Aston Villa

“There’s no way David Moyes will rest anyone with Tuesday’s game against Bayern Munich in mind. That’s the least of his worries. They need to win a game – and quick. He’ll pick a team to win this game.”

Crystal Palace 0-2 Chelsea

“There’s no chance of them putting out a weakened side with an eye on the game against Paris St-Germain in midweek. At this stage of the season, you have to keep winning games.”

Southampton 2-0 Newcastle United

“Southampton need to keep pressing on – they can go above Newcastle with a win, and that’s incentive alone. Quite a few Southampton players are trying to secure World Cup places and good luck to them, they’ve had a very good season. I fancy they’ll win this comfortably.”

Stoke City 2-0 Hull City

“It was a great win for Stoke at Villa last weekend, arguably their best performance of the season. It’s taken Mark Hughes time to change their mentality and the way they play. He’s done a good job and they’re going to finish halfway up the league.”

Swansea City 2-1 Norwich City

“Taking a point at Arsenal was a good result for Swansea. They only need to win a couple of games to be safe – and I think they will.”

West Brom 2-0 Cardiff City

“I have predicted them to win but I am not sure where their goals will come from.”

Arsenal 0-2 Manchester City

“City have the bit between their teeth – they’re playing very well. I’m not going to say Arsenal are imploding but City are a much better side and have lots of confidence. They’re starting to look like they’re full of goals and really dangerous.”

Fulham 1-2 Everton

“They’re playing well again. Four straight wins in the Premier League – why not go to Fulham and make it five? Lots of other teams have gone there and won. Fulham are conceding goals like there’s no tomorrow.”

Liverpool 2-0 Tottenham Hotspur

“I don’t think Tottenham will go to Anfield and try to defend. In fact, I don’t think they can defend.”

Sunderland 2-1 West Ham United

“West Ham got booed for winning at home against Hull. It’s a strange one. After losing three and getting sucked back into the danger zone, they actually won a game and were booed. I think they are a win away from being safe.”

What are your thoughts on these predictions then?

Passport complications saw Arsenal miss out on Yaya Toure

0

Arsenal had an agreement to sign Toure in 2003 after he impressed on trial, but instead the Ivorian opted to join Metalurh Donetsk.

Arsenal needed to wait on a work permit for the 6ft 3in powerhouse, but the delay ended up with Toure heading to Ukraine.

“At the top,” Wenger joked when asked how high the 30-year-old ranked in his signing regrets.

“But let’s not forget Toure had an agreement with Arsenal. We waited for his passport in Belgium but he went to Ukraine [instead].

“He’s not a mistake but he preferred to go to Donetsk without a passport.”

Wenger’s Arsenal take on City and Toure tomorrow.

Liverpool to make shock bid for Chelsea star Ashley Cole

0

England and Chelsea star Ashley Cole looks set to be available on a free transfer after falling down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.

Rodgers a former Chelsea coach himself, is known to be a big fan of the experienced 33-year old defender. With whom he knows from his time as a youth team coach and reserve manager, before moving to Watford in 2008.

With Cole’s future in doubt after being marginalised by current boss Jose Mourinho, who has preferred to play right-back Cesar Azpilicueta out of position instead, it looks like a move is a real possibility especially with Rodger’s and Mourinho’s good relationship.

Cole would definitely be a boost to Rodger’s exciting, attacking minded, title-chasing squad.

And although he knows he would face stiff competition from young Jon Flanagan, Cole is understood to still be keen on a move north to Anfield.

New York Red Bulls are another possibility but as we all know a move to America is the final step before retirement. So another go at Premier League and European glory might be too much temptation for Cole to refuse.

Liverpool have struggled defensively this season, so someone as experienced and well seasoned as Cole may be the answer they are looking for.

With Leighton Baines pushing for the first team spot for England this could be the perfect move for Cole.

Inter confirm interest in Premier League strikers

0

Inter Milan director Piero Ausilio has confirmed that the club are interested in signing Premier League duo Edin Dzeko and Fernando Torres.

The Italian side have been dominating the headlines in recent weeks after new president Erick Thohir confirmed that he wants to sign several new faces in order to bring the glory days back to the San Siro, and after securing Nemanja Vidic from Manchester United, they are now working on the rest of the team.

Milan have been linked with moves for Patrice Evra and Bacary Sagna, but Thohir ruled out the latter and according to the director, their attentions have now turned to attackers as they look at City’s third-choice and Chelsea’s first-team regular.

Dzeko and Torres both could be set to leave their respective clubs in the Summer, and Ausilio has confirmed their interest, but has also admitted that wages may be a stumbling block in the move.

He told Sky Sports Italia: “Aside from the names, I think it’s obvious we are working in that direction for that role.

“It’s true we cannot target players whose wages are too high, but in football there are often other resources.

“We’ll put a little bit of creativity and ingenious thought into it.

“We want to build a team that takes into account the economic parameters we’ve been set.

“This year was very useful working with the coach and it will be a great resource for next season. I am convinced of that.”

Paris Saint-Germain step up interest in Chelsea duo

0

Mega-rich French side Paris Saint-Germain are desperate to sign Chelsea duo Eden Hazard and Oscar this Summer, and according to reports, they are ready to step up their interest in the attacking-midfielders.

The two sides are scheduled to go head-to-head in the Champions League Quarter-Finals next week, and with these reports recently breaking, there could be some bad blood between the two camps, as it’s believed that Jose Mourinho is already unhappy with how the PSG camp are dealing with transfer reports.

Yohan Cabaye, who recently signed for the Ligue 1 team, has been in the news recently after he publically stated that Hazard should come and join PSG, and this came after it was reported that the club are ready to spend ÂŁ40million on Oscar as well.

It isn’t clear how much Laurent Blanc’s side is willing to pay for the duo, but if reports are to be believed, they seem very keen to win their signatures no matter what the cost.

However, both midfielders still have three years on their contracts and it’s believed Chelsea will reject any offers that are made.

13 retired or serving police officers identified as “suspects” over Hillsborough disaster

0

The Independent Police Complaints Comission (IPCC) has identified 13 retired or serving police officers as “suspects” in the ongoing investigation into the Hillsborough disaster.

The IPCC said 11 of these had already been interviewed under caution relating to a range of offences including manslaughter as well as misconduct in a public office and perverting the cause of justice.

A spokesman said the other two would be interviwed in the near future.

The spokesman said four of the 13 have been identified as suspects as part of both the IPCC’s investigation and also Operation Resolve – criminal investigation into the 1989 tragedy.

The IPCC’s inquiry – the biggest it has ever undertaken – covers the actions of the police in the aftermath of the crush at Hillsborough stadium, in Sheffield, which left 96 Liverpool fans dead.

The investigation was announced after the commission reviewed the report of the Hillsborough Independent Panel, which uncovered a huge amount of new evidence about what happened during and after the tragedy.

It is examining allegations including those surrounding amendments to police statements, the actions of the police officers after the disaster and the role of West Midlands Police, which investigated what happened at the time.

Operation Resolve, under the command of assistent commissioner Jon Stoddart, the retired chief constable of Durham Police, is a new, wider-ranging criminal investigation into the disaster.

The IPCC said it could not give any further infomation about the people who had been arrested snd how many of them had been interviewed in relation to allegations of manslaughter.

The coroner was told that the BBC has recently found an hour of unseen footage of the disaster which is now being considered by the legal teams.

The hearing was later adjourned after hearing legal arguments around a range of issues including the “pen portrait” statements each family will present to the inquest about their loved ones who died in 1989.

On Monday the full inquests will start and are expected to last at least nine months.

Spurs Midfielder to leave White Hart Lane Permanently

0

The midfielder, who is currently on loan at Fulham, is looking for a move back to Germany.

Head Coach Tim Sherwood is thought to be willing to let Holtby leave the club, but if a new coach were to arrive in the summer, Holtby would be prepared to honour his contract at White Hart Lane.

One man who is looking to return to Spurs is Benoit Assou-Ekotto, who has spent this season on loan at Championship side Queens Park Rangers.

“As many people know, Tottenham are a good club and if I can finish my contract there, cool. If people don’t want me there, then I will have to find another club. But my first target is to stay at Tottenham.”

Gylfi Sigurdsson has said that this season will be a disappointment for Tottenham if they don’t finish inside the top four.

Spurs currently sit sixth, seven points off fourth placed Arsenal with seven games remaining, and Sigurdsson doesn’t see any reason why continuity couldn’t help for next season.

He’s quoted in the Evening Standard, saying: “It will be a disappointment if we don’t finish higher than fifth. We brought a lot of players in last summer and we know it’s going to take time.

“It depends on some of the players coming in – some of them just fit in straight away, some need a few months or a season just to get used to English football. That’s life. If we can finish in the top four, it will be fantastic.”

Midfielder Paulinho is looking ahead to Sunday’s trip to Anfield, and has told the Tottenham website that the players should forget about the game earlier on in the season where the side was beaten 5-0 by Liverpool, and the Brazilian was sent off.

He said: “We have to forget about that game. We have a chance to go there, play well and hopefully come back with a good result. We know it will be difficult, but we have a chance.

“We have seven games to go, we’re trying to finish as high as possible and we have to try to win this game.”

Chelsea and Man City in for Benzema!

0

Chelsea and Manchester City are both in talks with Karim Benzema’s camp over a possible move in the summer. The French striker joined current club Real Madrid back in 2009 and he has just one-year remaining on his current deal.

Benzema’s UK representative – Jonathan Hope – has claimed he is in discussions with the two Prem clubs mentioned above. He told GiveMeSport:

“I can confirm that I am in talks with Manchester City and Chelsea in regard to Karim Benzema. He has one year remaining on his contract and he would relish the chance to play in England. A ÂŁ40 million pound transfer fee in the summer is not a lot for, in my opinion, the best centre-forward in the world. Chelsea are a huge interest given that Jose Mourinho is there, but we were at the Manchester City table last year and it looks similar this year.

“He is a great guy and a terrific footballer – the elite of strikers. Hopefully his future is sorted as soon as possible.”

Question marks are being raised over the Chelsea strike quartet of Fernando Torres, Demba Ba, Samuel Eto’o and Romelu Lukaku with Jose Mourinho expected to search for a new striker at the end of the season. Manchester City cannot claim to be short of firepower, but it seems possible that Manuel Pellegrini could indeed sign the French foward to re-affirm their dominance in that particular area of the market.

The question is, if Benzema truly is set to leave WHICH club will he choose?

Manchester United deny ‘Class Of ’92’ takeover rumours

0

Owners of Manchester United The Glazer Family have today denied rumours that David Beckham and his Class of ’92 team mates have made a ÂŁ2billion bid for the club. According to reports, Beckham, along with Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes and the Neville brothers have made the bid with the help of the Qartari royle family.

They have apparently approached the Glazer family a number of times, and now the price is the only stumbling block. United currently find themselves 7th in the Premier League, and are on the verge of ‘the worst title defence ever’ according to football fans.

But club sources are insisting that the club isn’t for sale, with The Glazer’s determind to stay in charge and help United climb back to the top. Led by brothers Avram and Joel, they bought the club in 2005, but had to give up 10% of their control in 2012 due to a share issue. Many Manchester United fans have been unhappy with the ownership of the Glazer family, who also own the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers, since they purchased a controlling stake in the club for ÂŁ810million back in 2005. With the club stumblimng across massive debts in the recent years, with the sizable figures the club owed totaling up to over ÂŁ700million at points.

This has turned the fans against The Glazer’s in recent years, with the ‘Glazer Out’ green and gold scarf still a common sight around Old Trafford.

No more free kicks for Suarez!

0

Steven Gerrard was bewildered when Suarez let the Liverpool captain take the free kick that propelled them to a 2-1 victory against Sunderland.

The skipper was seen joking to Suarez during the match about not letting the Uruguayan take any more free kicks however after the match he was much more serious. “Suarez has been magnificent on set-pieces but sometimes you need people to step in and I got it right,” said the Liverpool skipper. He went on to give Sunderland respect for a credible performance but insisted that it does not matter who scored the goals for the club as they have not clinched any silverware this season.

Suarez has dominated the back pages since the start of the season however, Sturridge has not gone unnoticed – he has scored in seven consecutive league games – 12 in 13 since his return from an ankle injury.

After the match Brendan Rodgers praised Daniel Sturridge for securing his 20th league goal of the season, describing him as a “revelation”. Both Suarez and Sturridge have surpassed the 20-goal mark for the season and Rodgers described it as “A great feeling but it’s more important for the team. It’s not about personal accolades.” Liverpool are just a point behind leaders Chelsea thanks to their attractive attacking football they have been play this season. They also showed their character as they halted a potential Sunderland comeback as Ki-Sung-yeung gave Sunderland a lifeline late into the game.

Liverpool host both Chelsea and Manchester City in the run-in for the title and Rodgers is confident his group of players will be able to handle the pressure: ‘It is just about reinforcing the calmness, for us to dominate the ball. Our idea is to stay calm under pressure and it’s important for (our fans) to stay calm too.

Moyes deserves more time – Roy Keane

0

After the demolition united were faced with at the hands of city, many fans have turned their back on Sir Alex’ “Chosen one”. However Roy Keane believes Moyes deserves more time to build his squad.

“Anyone who has got any idea about football will know this was the biggest job, to follow Alex Ferguson.” The United legend stressed that Moyes has only been at the club for “two minutes” and he should be allowed to get through to the summer so he can bring some strong  characters into the the club. The manager needs to bring in players that will show passion for 90 mins of the game because at the moment, the team lacks passion and desire.

Keane insists that it will be a difficult process with “more pain to come” for United with newly crowned Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich waiting around the corner.

â€śAt the Liverpool game, I thought United would be ok but they never turned up. Last night against City I thought they’d be alright and they never turned up. My God, they better turn up next Tuesday night.” Wise words from the Irishman as United have lost 5/6 matches against the top 3. Failure to produce against the big teams leaves United with it all to do on Tuesday night.

Wenger insists Arsenal must be patient with Ramsey

0

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger insists the Gunners must remain patient and not rush the Wales captain back into action too soon.

Ramsey’s form in the first half of the campaign was sensational, scoring 13 goals, but has not featured since coming off against West Ham on Boxing Day due to a thigh problem.

Wenger confirmed after Tuesday’s 2-2 home draw against Swansea, a side I’m sure Ramsey would of thrived against given his Cardiff roots, the Wales international had suffered a “little setback” in his rehabilitation.

Ramsey had originally been pencilled in for his Premier League return against Manchester City on Saturday, but his comeback has been put on hold.

Wenger said: “Ramsey is progressing well, but we need to be patient for a few more weeks.”

The Gunners injury list is growing with other key absentees such as record signing Mesut Ozil, also Jack Wiltshere and Nacho Monreal.

Arsenal take on a Manchester City side in relentless form, still pumping from their 3-0 away win at Old Trafford on Tuesday evening.

Wenger said: “We have to restore belief as well as we can and accept our position at the end of the season, but at the moment our focus is to recover from a high disappointment and recover for the next game.” Hardly surprising considering last weekend Arsenal were humiliated 6-0 by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

“It’s a huge game.”
