Liverpool’s run to reach the final was memorable.

They won the final against arch Premier League rivals, Tottenham in Madrid.

Liverpool’s road to the Champions League final began on August 15, when, just three days after their first Premier League game. The managed to keep it cool until 30 May 2018, when they faced Tottenham and only one of them was allowed to lift the trophy.

Not only did the team end up winning the UEFA Champions League, their players showed some impressive performances thought the entire campaign. Let’s see who holds the record of last season’s UCL in fastest sprints.

5. Breel Embolo – 33.5km/h

Embolo, who can play out wide or through the middle, has endured an injury-ravaged three seasons with Schalke following his arrival from Basel in 2016, but his return of 10 goals and two assists in 48 games – 28 of them starts – remains respectable, nonetheless. This summer, he joined Borussia Monchengladbach on a four-year deal.

But last season, he had one of the top 5 sprinting record in the Champions League, running 33.5km/h against Galatasaray.

Despite Gareth Bale getting the blame for Real Madrid’s disastrous campaign last year, when he got the chance, he still found a way to show everyone that he can perform well. Now, he back in favor under Zinedine Zidane at the Spanish giants and has hit the ground running in La Liga.

Last season, he got to sprint a surprising 33.8km/h against Roma at the Santiago Bernabeu.

3. Kyle Walker – 34.2km/h

Manchester City’s Kyle Walkjer is a well-known sprinter. “When I was younger I used to run the 100m for my school and the city of Sheffield, and I would train every Thursday for an hour with a sprint coach. Doing that has really benefited me in my football career”, he once revealed in an interview.

In the 2018/19 UCL match against former side Tottenham, he proved that he is one of Premier League’s fastest players, by going 34.2km/h.

2.  Leroy Sane – 34.4km/h

Sane who is reportedly again able to bend his knee again as he begins his recovery after suffering a serious interior cruciate ligament injury in early August​ But back, least year, Manchester City rounded off their Champions League group stage campaign with a 2-1 victory over Hoffenheim.

That is when in addition to scoring a lovely free-kick goal, Sane made a record run of 34.4km/h.

1. Virgil van Dijk – 34.5km/h

As expected, the best of the best – Virgil van Dijk registered the fastest sprint of the entire season in the Champions League 2018/19, which his team eventually went on to win. The Dutchman, a centre-back renowned for his strength rather than his speed, clocked 34.5km/h while desperately tracking back against Barcelona.

Van Dijk was at the heart of Liverpool’s Champions League success last season, playing in all but one of their games in Europe as the Reds took home the top prize for the sixth time in their history.
