Fer to join Swansea on loan

Guidolin’s January target on verge of leaving QPR

Swansea City are close to completing the loan signing of Queens Park Rangers midfielder Leroy Fer for the remainder of the season.

The Rs are trying to reduce their wage bill as they look set to miss out an immediate return to the Premier League this season, with Steven Caulker having already left the club for Liverpool, and Sandro and Charlie Austin leaving for West Bromwich Albion and Southampton respectively.

Swans’ new boss Francesco Guidolin had identified the Dutchman as a target to help the Welsh outfit in their bid to avoid relegation from the Premier League and the deal looks set to be complete before the 11pm deadline.

The 26-year-old has made 19 appearances for QPR this season, having been linked with Sunderland during the summer and a move to PSV in his homeland of Holland also breaking down.

But the former Norwich City man, who moved to Loftus Road for £8 million in 2014 is not set to join Swansea permanently following his loan spell.

Worrying record

Fer has previously been relegated with Norwich and QPR, but Guidolin believes that the Dutchman, who helped Holland to third at the 2014 World Cup, can have a positive affect on his squad.

The Swans and Fer are understood to be discussing this evening (Monday) the terms of the deal that will take him to the Liberty Stadium.

QPR are also set to offload goalkeeper Robert Green to Crystal Palace before the deadline.
