Images of Liverpool’s plans to expand Anfield to almost 60,000 seats have apparently been leaked this afternoon.

The images are understood to be official designs for the development, though some areas are likely to be modified before the official unveiling, set to take place before Liverpool’s title decider at Anfield against Chelsea on Sunday.

The development would cost the club around ÂŁ15million, and would raise the capacity of the stadium from 45,000 to 58,800, making it the third largest stadium in England, behind The Emirates and Old Trafford. The club are set to apply to Liverpool City Council for planning permisstion before the end of the season, and work will be completed in two stages, set to be completed in 2018 if all goes to plan.

Liverpool’s main priority will be explanding the Main Stand, with the current roof set to be removed and two new extra tiers added to add an extra 20,000 seats, making it the biggest stand in the ground. The Anfield Road stand will also be refurbished in the second phase of construction.

A number of houses will be to be demolished in order for the work to take place, and Liverpool City Council have agreed deals with the owners of at least 67 of the 71 homes that will be affected by the plans.
