Gunners still keen on signing play-maker

Arsenal have opened talks with Real Madrid over a deal for midfielder Isco – and a deal may even be completed in January.

Gunners manager Arsene Wenger was criticised for the club’s lack of transfer activity this summer, with goalkeeper Petr Cech the only arrival.

But the North London club are reportedly looking to rectify that when the next window opens in the New Year, by targeting Isco.

The Daily Express reckon that it would take a bid of £22m for Isco, with Manchester City also keen.

Isco changed his shirt number over the summer from 23 to 22, which he had previously worn at Malaga.

Underrated in Spain

Isco is one of the more under-rated stars among the Real Galacticos, the likes of Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo getting more media attention.

But Isco has been compared in the past to Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero and French legend Zinedine Zidane.

And earlier this year Real goalkeeping legend Iker Casillas predicted that Isco would become Spain’s most important player.

These kind of plaudits have brought Isco to the attention of Wenger, who is keen for a deal to be done.
