Cech sends message to former club Chelsea

The Gunners shot-stopper isn’t ruling out their title challenge yet

Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech has told his former club Chelsea that they are not guaranteed the Premier League title and their rivals in north London are ready to catch them.

After losing their opening game of the season 4-3 at home to Liverpool, the Gunners went on a good run of form which put them in a great position to claim what would be their first league title in 13 years.

However, they have since slipped up and currently find themselves eight points behind league leaders Chelsea, in fourth.

But Cech, who spent 11 successful years with the Blues, as the club’s number one for the best part of it, believes his side can still ruin Antonio Conte’s hopes of winning the league in his first season in charge at Stamford Bridge.

“This season we started very well and now we are chasing,” said Cech.

“But I think we still have plenty of games to play and we can still make up for the points we are missing.

“We’re coming to the period where every game will be crucial.”

Arsenal host Burnley on Sunday – a game in which they’ll be expected to win – with the visitors not particularly impressive away from home.

They lost their last Premier League outing away to Manchester City 2-1, while Arsenal won their last home league game 2-0 against relegation-threatened Crystal Palace.

A win for Arsene Wenger’s men would take them up to second in the table, ahead of Tottenham and Liverpool who currently are ahead of them.
