Chelsea to renew Marquinhos interest

Blues had TWO bids turned down on Deadline Day

Chelsea will renew their interest in Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos in January after falling short on two occasions during Deadline Day.

The Blues had two offers knocked back for the defender before turning their attentions to cheaper alternatives, which is when they captured Papy Djilobodji from Nantes and Michael Hector from Reading.

However, neither are seen as first-team players so Jose Mourinho will renew his interest in the PSG centre-back and will try and lure him to Stamford Bridge in the New Year.

Mourinho was after a commanding figure at the back but missed out on both Marquinhos and John Stones from Everton, leaving him empty-handed until Deadline Day.

Formal Bids

According to reports, Chelsea offered the Ligue 1 giants around ÂŁ31million for the 21-year-old but they saw their late bid turned down.

It’s not yet understood how high Mourinho and co. are willing to go for Marquinhos, but they will be renewing their interest once the window reopens again in January.

As for their pursuit in Stones, the Everton defender has reportedly asked the club for a new contract with a release clause worth ÂŁ38m in it, meaning Chelsea could be one step closer to landing their star-target.
