According to the German newspaper Bild, Manchester City have lodged a £39 million offer for Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka.
It is believed that the Switzerland international will snub Premier League rivals Arsenal and Liverpool in order to become Pep Guardiola’s first signing at the Etihad Stadium.
And the 23-year old has been open to the media about his desire to one day play in England’s top flight.
“England is my dream, I will not hide that. I want to fulfil it sometime,” said Xhaka.
However, he added: “I will only focus on football. I have a contract at Gladbach until 2019, only that counts for me.”
The potential arrival of Xhaka alongside Guardiola could spell the end of Yaya Toure’s City career, after his agent admitted the Ivorian may leave Manchester in the summer.
