Goalkeeper receives online abuse after Arsenal switch

Former-Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has slammed a portion of the club’s fans after he received hundreds of death threats and abuse after completing a controversial switch to London rivals Arsenal.

The 33-year-old completed his move to The Gunners earlier in the week after weeks of speculation, and after the two clubs formally announced the deal, some Chelsea fans reacted badly.

Trolls React Badly

A portion of the fans took to Twitter to send abuse to their former-keeper, calling him a traitor and a snake, whilst others went one step further and started sending death threats.

As well as online abuse, a video has spread around social media of two fans burning a Cech shirt after he announced his move to Arsenal.

When asked about the response he’s received since making the switch, Cech said that real Chelsea fans have wished him luck, whilst the fake fans have sent him abuse.

Cech Slams Fake Fans

He has said: ‘The true fans have sent me messages that are pleasing and positive. True fans will appreciate what I’ve done and the legacy I’ve left.

‘There are some people who have left me negative messages, but they aren’t true Chelsea fans.’

Cech completed a ÂŁ10.9million switch to Arsenal and is likely to become their new number-one, with his competitive debut likely to come against Chelsea in the Community Shield in early August.
