Real Madrid and Chelsea battle for Darmian

Matteo Darmian has enjoyed an impressive season with Torino, picking up just four yellow cards in his 35 appearances for club and country.

He has helped Torino out of a tricky Europa League group and was part of the side which sent Atletico Bilbao packing from the Round of 32.

And these solid performces have caught the eye of a number of top European sides, most noteably Real Madrid, whose boss Carlo Ancelotti is thought to be keen to bolster his defence.

According to Mediaset in Italy, Ancelotti would have to be prepared to part with around ÂŁ11million to acquire the 25 year-old’s services.

And they also claim that the European champions will face strong competition from Chelsea and PSG.

Chelsea already have an in-form right-back in Branislav Ivanovic, who has enjoyed a surprising goal-scoring run and was part of the Chelsea side which lifted the Capital One Cup on Sunday.

Ivanovic has been a crucial component in Chelsea’s defence this season but Jose Mourinho will be mindful of the Serbian’s age and could be looking for a long-term replacement in the not-too-distant future.
