Wojciech Szczesny is set to join the Serie A side, says Arsene Wenger

The Arsenal manager admitted the Poland international is on the verge of joining Rudi Garcia’s side.

The French coach revealed, prior to the Emirates Cup that a deal is almost complete and the goalkeeper would be joining on a season-long loan.

“He could go on loan to Roma. We’re pretty much done it is down to paper work but as long as that is not over the line anything can happen.”

“Szczesny is a top class goalkeeper and we have three goalkeepers and if he can play somewhere that is good” said Wenger.

Speculation started to mount about the 25-year-old possibly joining Roma after he started to follow them on Twitter, along with Francesco Totti and forward Alessandro Florenzi.

Smoked out

Szczesny was dropped from the first team after he was allegedly caught smoking in the showers after a 2-0 defeat to Southampton in January.

Wenger decided to promote David Ospina to no.1 goalkeeper for the remaining Premier League matches but allowed the Pole to feature in the FA Cup games.

Cech IN Szczesny OUT

Since Petr Cech’s £11milion move from Chelsea to the Gunners, the chances of Szczesny regaining his place in the first-team have become even slimmer.

The 33-year-old joined Arsenal, after a lack of first-team opportunities as Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho decide to promote Thibaut Courtois to first-choice keeper.

The Czech Republic international made 333 appearances for the Blues and won several trophies at the club, including the UEFA Champions League during the 2011-12 season.
