‘No enquiries for Barkley’, says Martinez

0

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has confirmed that no enquiries have been made for Ross Barkley from either Manchester City or Chelsea.

The 20-year-old, who burst onto the scene last season, has been monitored by both Premier League giants over the past few months, despite the Englishman picking up a severe injury just before the season started, and reports broke yesterday that they both may make Summer bids for the midfielder.

However, Martinez has revealed that no contact has been made between any of the clubs, and there is nothing to tell on the future of the 20-year-old, who signed a four-year deal earlier in the year.

“I don’t think there is anything to comment,” Martinez said. “It’s a rumour and we’ll leave it there.

“We have spoken in the past about potential interest. We’ll take it as a footballing compliment, we just want him to enjoy his football and help the team. Have we had any enquiries for Ross? No.”

Report: Chelsea 2-1 Bolton Wanderers

0

Chelsea beat Championship outfit Bolton Wanderers 2-1 to advance in the Capital One Cup at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday evening, thanks to goals from Kurt Zouma and Oscar.

Defender Zouma had given the hosts a 25th minute lead, before Wanderers centre back Matthew Mills powered a header home on the half hour.

Brazilian midfielder Oscar then settled proceedings as he hit a low driven effort into the bottom left hand corner to send Chelsea through.

The Blues, who came into the game on top of the Premier League, made several changes to their starting 11, with Petr Cech replacing Thibaut Courtois, Kurt Zouma for John Terry and Loic Remy coming in for Diego Costa, in what were just a few fresh faces in Chelsea’s tinkered squad. Nathan Ake also started for the West London club.

Meanwhile, Dougie Freedman made five changes to the squad who lost 1-0 away at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, with Jermaine Beckford and Craig Davies leading the line up-front for the Trotters.

Chelsea started the game brightly, with Andre Schurrle forcing Bolton goalkeeper Andrew Lonergan into a fine save, with the game only five minutes old.

Five minutes later, Lonergan was called upon again, this time keeping out Oscar’s defelected effort, as Bolton hung on during the opening exchanges.

Bolton didn’t seem to be getting into the game whatsoever, with Chelsea looking dangerous with every attack.

World Cup winner Schurrle was once again in the thick of the action, however he saw his right footed free-kick superbly tipped onto the crossbar by Andrew Lonergan after 15 minutes. The German then saw his curling effort just dip wide of the post from a tight angle just two minutes later.

The visitors looked to find a way into the Cup tie, and Craig Davies may have cosidered himself unfortunate not to get on the end of a teasing cross from the right hand side.

Soon enough though, Chelsea found a deserved lead, through summer recruit Zouma, with 25 minutes on the clock.

The 19 year old centre back pounced to a lose ball before poking home in a croweded penalty box past Lonergan, as normal service was resumed at the Bridge.

Three minutes later, Jermaine Beckford then found his way into the Chelsea area with the ball, however he was tackled at the last minute by Filipe Luis.

However, Bolton would find their equaliser, through captain Matthew Mills, after 32 minutes.

Liam Feeney launched a free-kick forward, with centre defender Mills meeting the ball superbly and glancing into the bottom left hand corner past Petr Cech.

As the half wore on, Chelsea looked for a second, with Nathan Ake seeing his 30 yard screamer superbly tipped round the post for a corner by Lonergan, as Wanderers managed to see out the first 45 minutes level pegging with their Premier League counterparts.

Chelsea then went out for the second half looking to restore their lead, with Lonergan once again to the rescue, keeping out Oscar’s near post header once again, with 50 minutes of the game played.

The next real chance for the hosts would prove to be their winner, through a well taken driven finish by Oscar, on 55 minutes.

A lose ball broke to the Brazilian midfielder, who took a few touches and fizzed a superb effort into the bottom left corner beyond the despairing dive of Lonergan.

From there on, it was an uphill battle for Bolton, with Freedman throwing on, first Lee Chung Yong, and then Joe Mason and Jay Spearing later on.

Wanderers huffed and puffed, atempting valiantly to get back into the Cup tie in West London, with Mason and Beckford both going close as the game entered its final stages.

Chung Yong Lee saw his driven effort comfortably gathered by Petr Cech with 10 minutes to play.

Chelsea could have perhaps had a third later on, with Lonergan tipping Schurrle’s fierce drive onto the near post.

Bolton’s final chance of the tie came in the last few minutes, as Joe Mason failed to connect with Jermaine Beckford’s defelected effort.

Juventus deny interest in Italian striker

0

The Italian champions have denied being interested in the player back in the summer transfer window. With rumours flying around all summer Balotelli eventually returned to the Premier league to join Liverpool. Juventus general director Beppe Marotta spoke to Radio Uno about the subject.

“Balotelli? He has never been our target. We have never negotiated for him”

“In January if we need to do so then we will make corrective measures. We are happy with the group at the disposal of Allegri, we are competitive in Italy and even in Europe, whwre there are other clubs stronger than us”

The general director has also backed the clubs defence after some critical comments were made. “I have heard criticism of our defence, but if I am not mistaken, after three games we have not conceded a goal.

He also stated “In recent years, Juventus’ appeal has returned to what it was in the past. Years ago, Di Natale would not come, but now champions are willingly doing so”.  The Italian champions also face Cesena tonight at the Juventus stadium.

Liverpool to be investigated for financial fair play

0

UEFA have reportedly set their sights on Liverpool as the new financial fair play(FFP) rules start to take effect.

An announcement as early as Thursday is expected, requesting further documentation regarding the club’s spending and accounts be sent to the club financial control body (CFCB). A number of teams including AS Roma, Monaco and Inter Milan are expected to be named alongside Liverpool as clubs who are also being investigated. All of the clubs named were absent from European competition last season and as such have only recently submitted their financial records to be examined.

Liverpool posted a loss of just under £50m for the 2012-13 season, and a loss of £40m for the ten month period before that. FFP rules state that losses must be less than £35.4m for both the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons. Liverpool are expected to try and classify parts of those losses as stadium expenses incurred under the disastrous Hicks and Gillett reign, which saw money being spent on an ambitious project for a new stadium that never came to fruition. FFP allows money spent on youth academies and stadium expenses to be written off.

No financial penalties are expected to be handed out to any of the teams involved at this stage, although a possible scenario could see any Champions League prize money from this season being withheld. The breaches are not being treated as anywhere near as serious as those which saw huge fines handed out to Manchester City and Paris St. Germain earlier this year. UEFA is currently facing legal actions brought by Belgian agent Daniel Striani in 2013 regarding the application and severity of financial fair play.

Tipped for the top!

0

Veteran American goalkeeper Brad Guzan has tipped Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois to make it to be one of the finest goalkeepers in the world.

The Belgian has replaced Petr Cech as Chelsea no.1 after spending 3 years on loan at Atletico Madrid and has been showing impressive form. Guzan, of Aston Villa, has also been excellent this season, and believes that Courtois will only get better,

“He’s someone who I believe is one of the top five goalkeepers in the world,” Guzan told Villa’s official site

“Thibaut’s resume is outstanding. His accolades for the past few seasons at Atletico speak for itself, with Belgium too.

“He’s only 22 so these things are unbelievable. He’s a top, top keeper and someone Chelsea sees their future with.

“There’s nothing better that having the confidence of the manager and coaching staff.

“You want to be dependable and the guy the lads look to if an opposition player gets through the defence.

“You want them thinking that you’re going to come up with the goods and make a save at the vital time. You want that responsibility.

“You relish that opportunity to be number one – be the guy that’s going to hopefully help the team. That’s what it’s all about.”

Mourinho’s Chelsea backed to rule Europe for years

0

Former Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien has backed Jose Mourinho’s team to rule European football for the next decade.

The midfielder was signed by the Special One back in 2005, and went on to make over 250 appearences for Chelsea before moving to AC Milan on a free transfer last year.

Speaking about Chelsea’s chances in this season’s Champions League, Essien told FIFA.com: “I think they’ll do well as always. Jose has rebuilt the team in his own image and now they’ll fight for everything this season.

“They have the ability to win things and that’s what they’ll be doing. Chelsea have become a football force in Europe in the last 10 years and I can see that carrying on for the next 10 years or more.”

Essien has also been linked with a future coaching role under Mourinho, but the 31-year-old admits that he is unlikely to remain in football once his playing career comes to an end.

He added: “I have always said no to coaching as I don’t think it’s for me. Coaching is a whole new ball game and not for the faint-hearted, which rules me out.

“But you never know and stranger things have happened in football.”

Reus stalls Dortmund talks

0

Germany star Marco Reus has stalled talks with current club Borussia Dortmund as he waits for offers from Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United.

The winger has been linked with moves to a number of top European clubs, but is said to be wanting to move to the Premier League should he quit Dortmund.

So much so, Reus has stalled contract talks with the German club and is hoping that either Arsenal, Manchester United or Liverpool will meet his £20 million release clause at the end of the season.

Reus is reportedly worried about the club’s transfer policy with the club loosing Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski to rivals Bayern Munich in recent years.

The news will come as a major boost to Louis Van Gaal, Brendan Rodgers and Arsene Wenger, who have all made Reus one of their top priorities for the summer transfer window.

Van Gaal highlights £40 million defender for defensive overhaul

0

Van Gaal is on the hunt for defencive reinforcements after poor defencive performances have lead to humbling 4-0 and 5-3 losses to MK Dons and Leicester City respectively. It seems Van Gaal has highlighted Nicolas Otamendi as a player he wants to bring in at the back.

The defender who didn’t claim a place in Argentina’s World Cup squad is apparently being lined up by Van Gaal ahead of a £40 million move. United fans will be shell shocked at how much the Dutchman is willing to spend on the defender after Valencia only paid £9.5 million for the defender last February.

Reports in Spain suggest Valencia have no intention of selling Otamendi, however, United are willing to meet the £40 million release clause in the defenders contract to get their man. United have been linked with Hummels and Pique inrecent times although both seem unlikely.

Can Otamendi replace the void left by the departures of Ferdinand and Vidic? Is he really worth £40 million?

Dele Alli could be subject of a January transfer war between Premier League duo Liverpool and Tottenham.

The England U-19 international has caught the eye of both Mauricio Pochettino and Brendan Rodgers, with both bosses ready to make enquires once the window reopens in January.

Alli has recently penned a new three-year deal with MK Dons that ties him to the club until the summer of 2017, but it seems that Premier League clubs are ready to persuade the youngster to move on.

The youngster has had a quite phenomenal start to the new campaign, and his six goals in eight league games has fired MK Dons to an automatic promotion spot in League One.

Chelsea made enquiries for Varane and Mangala, due to Zouma doubts

0

Chelsea reportedly made enquiries for both Raphael Varane and Eliaquim Mangala due to the uncertaintly of Kurt Zouma, reports the Daily Express.

Zouma signed for Chelsea this summer having agreed a lucrative move from French Ligue 1 side St Etienne in January, however he has so far, failed to grasp his chance in a Blues shirt.

And it appears that the young centre back is set for a fight on his hands to prove that he can pull his weight at Chelsea, with Mourinho reportedly making last gasp bids for Real Madrid defender Varane, and Mangala, who ended up at Manchester City of course.

Zouma was a proposed loan target for fellow Premier League sides Sunderland, and Hull City, though the West London club decided to keep the Lyon born defender in the first team fold.

19 year old Zouma is set to make his Chelsea bow this evening, as the Blues face Championship side Bolton Wanderers in the League Cup tie at Stamford Bridge, with Mourinho set to heavily tinker with his squad, ahead of the game against the Trotters.

Manchester United mulling over Pique move

0

Manchester United are reportedly considering a deal to bring former defender Gerard Pique back to Old Trafford, reports the Metro.

Pique departed United for Barcelona for a £5 million fee in 2008, and has since become a key member of the Spanish sides’ back four, helping Barcelona to Domestic and European trophies during his time in Catalonia.

However, Pique has fallen out of favour under new Barcelona boss Luis Enrique, an occurance which may lead Van Gaal to make a swift bid for the Spanish international in January.

The 27 year old has only recently penned a new long term deal at Barca, wih United boss Van Gaal keen to bolster up his stuttering defence, with the Red Devils in need of experience at the back.

‘Arsene Wenger admires me’, admits Yobo

0

Joseph Yobo has claimed that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is a massive fan of his, but confirms that no talks are in place between the two.

The Gunners are thin when it comes to defensive options after Mathieu Debuchy’s injury, and reports had suggested that Wenger may dip into the free transfer market, where Yobo lies after being released by Turkish side, Fenerbache, in the Summer.

Yobo, who spent the last part of the season on loan at Norwich City, has admitted that Wenger once wanted to sign him to replace Sol Campbell, but insists that he personally hasn’t spoken to the Frenchman about a potential move.

“I read Arsenal was interested in me; it was news to me.

“If negotiations are taking place, I am not aware. Maybe the club is talking with my agent.

“There is no formal contact with anybody. I know Arsene Wenger admires me a lot and wanted me to replace Sol Campbell some years ago, but Everton blocked the move

“He wanted me to partner Kolo Toure in defence; I was younger then.”

Premier League trio keen on signing ‘new Courtois’

0

Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United are all monitoring teenage Belgian goalkeeper Mile Svilar, who is dubbed ‘the next Thibaut Courtois’.

The 15-year-old shot-stopper is currently playing for Anderlecht, but his performances have caught the eye of the Premier League trio, who are all set to battle it out for the teenager.

Svilar has been putting in some fine performances whilst taking part in different age group competitions, winning ‘best goalkeeper’ at the U17 Aegon Future Cup, the U19 PSV Otten Cup and the Copa del Agatha for under 19s, despite being just 14 at the time.

According to the 15-year-old’s father, the three English clubs have all declared their interest in the goalkeeper and are all tracking his progress.

“He has trialled at Chelsea and Manchester United also inquired. Everyone wants him.

“But we already have an agreement with Anderlecht, even though he can’t sign a contract until his 16th birthday.

“There is nowhere better for him than Anderlecht.”
