Lionel Messi has won the Ballon d’Or for a record seventh time.

The new winners of football’s most coveted awards were announced on Monday evening. Lionel Messi has won the Ballon d’Or for a record seventh time.

The PSG forward made 56 appearances in 2021 recording 41 goals and 17 assists. He also won the Copa America Cup trophy for Argentina this year.

The 34-year-old star beat out players likes Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski (second) and Chelsea’s Jorginho (third).

Meanwhile, Alexia Putellas won the Ballon d’Or Féminin. The 27-year-old midfielder made 57 appearances for Barcelona and country in 2021 scoring 39 goals in the process.

Barcelona’s Jennifer Hermoso and Chelsea’s Sam Kerr came second and third respectively.

The Kopa Trophy for best player under 21 went to Pedri (Barcelona) and Gianluigi Donnarumma (PSG) took home the Yashin Trophy for the best goalkeeper. The brand new Striker of the Year award was won by Robert Lewandowski and Club of the Year went to Chelsea.
