Spanish goalkeeper Rico is in high demand on Merseyside

Liverpool and Everton are settle to battle it out for £15 million-rated Sevilla goalkeeper Sergio Rico.

The two Merseyside clubs are also joined by Southampton in the race for the 22-year-old, who is highly rated in his homeland and is expected to challenge Manchester United’s David de Gea in the Spain squad in the coming years.

Everton had been taking an interest in the Sevilla man, but they now appear frustrated that their local rivals have also joined the race for the goalkeeper.

Mignolet alternative

Reds fans were left shocked when first-choice Simon Mignolet was handed a new five-year deal, after proving unpopular at Anfield with the fans.

The Belgium international has been inconsistent with his performances, although he has, at times, also proved to be crucial for the Reds.

However, Jurgen Klopp has grown frustrated with Mignolet, and hopes to sign Rico as an alternative first choice.

It is understood the 22-year-old, who the Europa League with Sevilla last season, would favour a move to Anfield, rather than Southampton, or across Stanley Park, to Everton.
