Adam Lallana insists Liverpool need to learn from their mistakes following their shock defeat at the hands of Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League.

Liverpool looked to have lost the plot completely and failed to put a good shift as the home side took controls after an initial few jitters. Milan Pavkov’s inspired brace helped Belgrade to pile more misery on the Reds.

This unexpected result left Liverpool in second place although Paris Saint Germain are sniffing on their shoulder following their emphatic win over Napoli to maintain the pressure on the English outfit.

It was Lallana’s only third start in the season but the English midfielder couldn’t make it count. The 30 year old is hopeful that the club will bounce back and will seal a place in the next round.

“We had chances and we came out at the start of the second half which was better, but we weren’t ruthless enough and we weren’t patient enough.

“Of course there will be a reaction. It’s not the first time we’ve lost games and it’s about how you react and how you bounce back but we are thoroughly disappointed to come away with nothing.

“They time-wasted and we lost momentum but to come in 2-0 down wasn’t like us and we’ve got to take full responsibility and make sure that doesn’t happen again.”
