Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri has said that if Cristiano Ronaldo from getting sent off against Valencia yesterday. VAR is yet to make its debut in the Champions League. Ronaldo had a tussle with Valencia’s Jeison Murillo and later, put his hand on Murillo’s head. Match official Felix Brych consulted with his assistant and then, showed Ronaldo a straight red.

The Portuguese left the field in tears. Only time will tell if Ronaldo will receive a one-match ban or three-match ban. If Ronaldo gets a three-match ban, then he will miss Juventus’ game against his old club Manchester United at Old Trafford on October 24.

Juventus eventually won the match 2-0 thanks to two penalties from Miralem Pjanic.

After the match, Allegri said, “I can only say that VAR would have helped the referee make the right decision. Mostly because it was the 29th minute in the first half in a difficult game, to find yourselves with 10 men for a red card, that was not right. It could have complicated the situation for us, but the guys have been very good. They played well as long as they had to, until (we were) 2-0 and then we defended with order, leaving them a few shots on goal, but nothing special.”

Juventus’ next league fixture is against newly-promoted Frosinone on Sunday.

Their next Champions League fixture is against Young Boys at Turin on October 2. Young Boys are in their first Champions League since 1986. It’s also their first appearance since the tournament got the name ‘UEFA Champions League’. They began with a 3-0 defeat to Manchester United.
