Match official Andre Marriner will be stealing the headlines from Arsene Wenger’s 1,000th game as he wrongly sent off Kieran Gibbs instead of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The game was all-but over for Arsenal before the penalty came as they had already conceded two goals inside the first eight minutes, but after Chamberlain parried the ball off the line with his hand from an Eden Hazard shot, a penalty was given and a red card was issued.

With the majority of people assuming Chamberlain was about to walk off the pitch, it was left-back Gibbs that went down the tunnel, much to the surprise of many.

It was clear to everyone that it was The Ox that handled the ball off the line, but in the eyes of Marriner, it was Gibbs that gave away the penalty, and he was the one sent off despite himself and Chamberlain telling the ref what actually happened.

The gave eventually ended 6-0 to Chelsea and it will certainly be a game Wenger will want to forget as soon as possible.
