Premier League giants Arsenal and Liverpool are set to be dealt a major transfer blow with the news that Andre-Pierre Gignac is set to sign a contract extension at Marseille.
The English duo were both scouting the French striker and were plotting a January bid for the target-man, but according to reports, he is set to commit his future to his current club in Ligue 1.
The 28-year-old’s current deal expires next Summer, and both Premier League sides were keen to hold talks with him in the New Year with the view of him agreeing a deal in principle to join once his deal expired.
However, Gignac is now set for contract talks with Marseille and is keen to pen a new deal rather than force a move away from the club.
Officials at Marseille want the striker to pen a 12-month extension, meaning they won’t lose him on a free next year.
Gignac is Ligue 1’s top goalscorer with 10-goals this term.
