Didier Deschamp confirmed that the forward will not leave Spain this summer

Since joining Atletico Madrid from Real Sociedad back in 2014, Antoine Griezmann has been a mainstay in the team. He has given numerous impressive performances and has established himself as one of the best strikers in the World.

The 27 year old has been a regular for La Liga giants this season and, scoring 27 goals in all competitions. He helped his team to finish 2nd in the La Liga behind Barcelona and also helped them to win the Europa League.

Despite being contracted with Atletico until the summer of 2022, the France International has been heavily linked with a exit from the club. He has been heavily linked with a move to rivals Barcelona this summer with reports claiming that they are ready to pay his £88 million release clause.

Diego Simeone and his club teammates expressed many times that they want the forward to stay with them beyond this summer but he is still heavily linked with a summer exit. The Frenchman recently confirmed that his future will be resolved by the end of this week, before the World Cup in Russia begins.

Manchester United were heavily linked with a move for him last year but they signed Everton star Romelu Lukaku. But according to recent reports, the Red Devils have rekindled their interest in him as Jose Mourinho looking to bolster his squad.

But France coach Didier Deschamp confirmed that Griezmann will stay in La Liga and that one part is clear. He appeared to put an end to talk of a move to England, as he said at a news confernece on Monday.

“There is talk about their [Griezmann and Lyon captain Nabil Fekir’s] futures,” Deschamps told a news conference.

“It’s not ideal but I won’t be able to have ideal conditions anyway.

“But Antoine will remain in Spain, that much is clear, so no worries.”
