Will they be at Stamford Bridge next season?
Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has targeted two major Premier League players as summer signings.
The Blues boss, who is close to guiding the club to the Premier League title in his debut seasons, wants Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk and Everton’s Romelu Lukaku as new recruits in the upcoming transfer window.
‘We are in a period of transition,’ Conte said after watching his side beat Tottenham on Saturday.
‘In this season, we have lost [Branislav] Ivanovic, [John Obi] Mikel and next season we lose John Terry.
‘We are talking about players who wrote the history of this club. They won a lot.
‘Now we have to find the right substitutes for these players and then work to put these players at the same level.’
The two men rumoured to be at the top of his shortlist would cost the club in excess of £120m, according to the Daily Mirror, but are at least of proven Premier League calibre.
