Arsenal ace stalls over new contract

Arsenal winger Theo Walcott has yet to put pen-to-paper on a new 5 year deal at the Emirates, and is set to wait until the summer to decide on his future.

The new deal would see the 25 year-old become one of Arsenal’s highest earners and would see him into his tenth year at the Gunners following his move from Southampton almost a decade ago.

However, since returning to full fitness after injury, Walcott has found first-team opportunities hard to come by following competition from Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the attacking midfield roles.

It also look increasingly unlikely that Walcott will ever be used in his apparent preferred striker position, following the signing of Danny Welbeck and Arsene Wenger’s fondness for Olivier Giroud.

Arsenal will be keen to tie Walcott down to the new deal so that they don’t lose him on the cheap next season with just over 12 months remaining on his current contract.
