Both Arsenal and Manchester United failed in last gasp bids to sign highly rated Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho, reports the Daily Express.
Carvalho, a holding midfielder, is highly rated by both clubs, who had bids rejected over the summer.
Reports in the Portuguese press claimed that both sides had deals rejected for the 22 year old, with Sporting Lisbon slapping a £37 million release clause.
Carvalho stated previosly before deadline day that he was resigned to staying at the Lisbon giants.
“I have a deal with Sporting and I am a player of Sporting.
“I am feeling good and it has not entered my head to leave on the last day.”
