Arsenal are confident of wrapping up a £24million deal for Chelsea and Manchester United target William Carvalho.
The Portuguese midfielder has been linked with a move to the Premier League since January, with United and Chelsea the lead racers for his signature, but after Arsenal dropped their interest in Real Madrid’s Sami Khedira, they turned their attentions to the Sporting Lisbon man.
Arsene Wenger is desperately searching for a holding midfielder to help balance out his attack-minded midfield, and a £24m bid for Carvalho is set to be launched, and the feeling around the Emirates is that they could wrap up the deal fairly quickly.
Arsenal have shown interest in Khedira, Morgan Schneiderlin and Lars Bender, but it now appears that Carvalho is their number-one target.
According to reports in Portugal, Lisbon could accept Arsenal’s £24m bid, despite the midfielder having a £37m release clause, but they are keen on raising funds quickly in order to spend on strengthening their squad.
