Arsenal are considering a move for Ajax wonderkid Jorrel Hato.
The 17-year-old defender is currently enjoying his breakout campaign with Ajax and has even captained the senior side on several occasions.
He has drawn comparisons with former Ajax man Jurrien Timbers and is expected to follow his countryman to the Emirates this January.
The Gunners are a little light on options at the back with both Jurrien Timber and Takehiro Tomiyasu out with their respective long-term injuries.
Timber who joined this summer from Ajax is expected to be available in the early weeks of 2024.
Hato has already made 16 appearances in the Eredivisie in his breakout season and has captained the side twice despite his age.
The Ajax man is regarded as one of the best young defenders in world football and has been identified as a key target for the Gunners this January, according to The Athletic.
“Arsenal are also interested in Ajax’s 17-year-old defender Jorrel Hato. The teenager has been a rare bright spot in a troubled season for the Amsterdam club, wearing the captain’s armband on occasion, and has already received his first cap for the Dutch senior team.
“Hato plays as a left-sided centre-back or left-back, so would complement Timber. Arsenal believe Ajax’s game model is analogous to their own, hence Timber’s swift adaptation.”
