Arsenal legend David Seaman has compared new signing Bernd Leno to Manchester United shot-stopper David de Gea. Leno was signed by Emery from Bayer Leverkusen for £19.2 million. There are plenty of speculations that Leno will be Arsenal’s starting goalkeeper this season.
However, Seaman has likened him David de Gea and has also said that he could struggle in his first Premier League season just like de Gea did. “I’m still waiting to see him play and then I will make a judgement but you can only tell once they start playing in the Premier League,” said the former Arsenal and England goalie.
“It is a totally different pace and physicality, you look at David De Gea when he first came here he had big problems when he didn’t realise how physical it was in the Premier League but he adapted to that and really kicked on. With Leno, we have to wait and see what happens – if he is number one, we don’t even know who is going to be number one yet.”
Leno had a pretty decent season with Bayer Leverkusen in 2017-18. He made 10 clean sheets during the Bundesliga as Bayer ended fifth in the Bundesliga. They lost out on a Champions League spot to Borussia Dortmund on goal difference.
Bernd Leno will be donning the No.19 shirt for Arsenal this season. The Gunners begin their campaign at home against Manchester City on 12th August.
