Arsenal are ready to step up their efforts to sign Sporting Lisbon defensive midfielder William Carvalho.
It is understood that boss Arsene Wenger has shown his interest in the player by making an equiry about the player’s availibility this transfer window.
However, Lisbon have stood firm and will settle for no less than £35.6m as this fee is close to the player’s clause he has in his contract.
Wenger is said to be very keen on signing the young Portugese international and has turned his focus upon sealing a deal to sign him, after deal for Khedira and Bender have seemingly fallen through.
Meanwhile, Wenger has added more bulk in the Goalkeeping department at the Emirates by signing David Ospina for £3.2m.
Opsina, who turned down moves to Brazil and to Valencia, starred at the World Cup with some stellar performances.
The Keeper is expected to provide back-up for number one Szczesny as Arsenal look to make a challenge in the Premier League next year.
