Arsenal must be sick of me, says Rooney

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has said Sunday’s opponents, Arsenal, must be sick of the sight of him by now.

The Merseyside-born footballer always seems to put on a show when he faces Arsene Wenger and co. and he even bursted onto the Premier League scene against Arsenal when he played for Everton.

Back in 2002, when he was nothing but a teenager, a baby-faced Wayne Rooney produced a magical goal in the last minute to help The Toffees beat Arsenal and that started his career and his impressive record against Wenger.

After making his move from Merseyside to Manchester, Rooney then all-but ended Arsenal’s unbeaten run single-handedly after he won a penalty and then scored himself during their 2-0 victory.

He then scored his 100th Premier League goal, yes you’ve guessed it, against Arsenal and the Englishman joked saying that the North London club are probably sick of him by now.

‘Arsenal do crop up quite often,’ said Rooney. ‘It is a bit weird. I am sure they must be sick of the sight of me at times.

‘That first goal for Everton does seem like a long time ago. It was obviously a special goal for me, plus they were 32 games unbeaten. And I will always remember the 2004 game.

‘There had been a lot of hype around it because of what happened the year before with Ruud van Nistelrooy.

‘That was as tense as I ever remember it before a game.

‘Arsenal were a fantastic team and it was a great feeling to beat them 2-0 and end that record.’
