Tottenham Hotspur record signing Erik Lamela has urged his critics to stop comparing him to Welsh sensation Gareth Bale.

Spurs spent £30million on the midfielder in the Summer after they lost Bale to Real Madrid for a whopping £85million, but despite the club paying their highest ever fee for a player, Lamela has not settled well at White Hart Lane.

Andre Villas-Boas has confirmed that the Argentine is suffering due to language barriers and that he isn’t feeling settled due to the new culture, but Lamela showed glimpses of what he can due on Thursday night in the Europa League.

The winger won a penalty and also scored for Spurs in their 2-1 win over Sheriff, but after the game, he told people to stop liking him to Bale.

‘Bale is Bale, I am Erik Lamela.

‘Bale is at Real Madrid, one of the most important clubs in the world. He is who he is and I am who I am.

‘People have said many things about me and about the other players who joined last summer. Everyone can bring his own qualities and give his best for the team but it is wrong to say I was brought here to replace Bale.’
