Arsenal have opened up talks to sign Southampton holding midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin.
The Gunners are desperately in need of a defensive midfielder, with Sami Khedira emerging as a top target for the club this summer.
However, with Khedira’s wage demands more than Wenger is willing to offer, a move for the Real Madrid man has stalled, resulting in Arsenal searching elsewhere.
And now it is understood Arsenal have reignited their interest in Schneiderlin after being linked with the player at the end of last season.
Some reports have suggested that preliminary negotiations are taking place with Southampton over a deal for the Frenchman.
The Saints are apparently asking £18million for his signature and are under no pressure to sell, having already lost a host of star names this summer.
However, Arsenal believe the player wants the transfer happen and will be boosted by that going in talks over a fee.
