Arsene Wenger has admitted he cannot understand why Mesut Ozil continues to be struck down by illness but expects the playmaker to fit for the League Cup final on Sunday.

Ozil missed the last two days of training due to illness. He seems to be a doubt for Arsenal’s cup final showdown with Manchester City this weekend.

This is the fourth time this season Ozil has been sidelined by illness and Wenger confirmed the German’s weak immune system was a concern.

Wenger said: “His immune system is in trouble and I don’t know why. We hope we can improve that medically.

“He came back from Ostersund [where Arsenal won the first leg 3-0] on Thursday night, practised Friday and Saturday.

“Since Monday, he was in bed. Today was the first session.

“I would certainly have played him but because he was sick, he will have to work hard and he will not be involved against Ostersund. He should be OK for Sunday.”

Ozil will not play the second leg of Arsenal’s Europa League last-32 tie against Ostersund tonight.

Another player is also set to miss the final this weekend.
