Arsenal ‘in talks’ with Riyad Mahrez in shock double swoop

Earlier this week the Gunners activated the release clause of Jamie Vardy, but it has since emerged that they are extremely keen on signing Mahrez also.

These two stars were vital to Leicester City’s success last season, dazzling fans and opponents alike. They ensured that Claudio Ranieri’s side finished ahead of Arsenal after the Gunners secured second place on the final day of the season- meaning the Gunners missed out on yet another Premier League title.

Vardy needs to make a decision as to whether or not it would be wise to move to Arsenal, after the Gunners lodged a £20m bid to activate his release clause, but it has since emerged that the 29-year-old English international striker may not be the only Leicester player heading to the Emirates this summer.

According to news outlet The Sun, Mahrez is already in talks with Arsenal over a stunning move that would see Leicester offload two players that were pivotal to the historic title win of 2016. The Foxes paid a measly £400,000 for Mahrez when they signed him from Le Havre for Mahrez in January 2014, and can expect a massive profit from the transfer- but the 25-year-old would be a big loss for the side given he should have his best years ahead of himself.

Mahrez stunned football fans from around the world this season, and alongside winning a Premier League title, he also landed the PFA player of the year award. Due to this he has since been strongly linked with a move to the likes of Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain despite confirming his happiness at the King Power Stadium.

Although Leicester City would receive a phenomenal amount of money from the two transfers, it means that they would have to embark on their first Champions League adventure without their two stars, and would have to use the transfer money extremely carefully to ensure any form of success.
