Arsene Wenger has offered Mikel Arteta a new one year extension on his contract, which is reported to have been accepted by the player.
The 33 year old Spanish midfielder was appointed club captain in the summer, and although he is currently out injured, Wenger believes he is vital to Arsenal’s squad and has moved quickly to keep him at the club.
Arteta’s current deal expires at the end of the season and had been linked with Athletic Bilbao and Fiorentina before agreeing to stay at the Emirates.
