Wesley Sneijder had revealed that he rejected a move to Manchester United, in order to remain in the Champions League, report The Daily Mail.

Sneijder is set to captain Turkish side Galatasaray in their Champions League game away at Arsenal this evening, with Sneijder stating that he is more than happy in Turkey, as he prepares to lead the Istanbul club out at the Emirates Stadium.

And the 30 year old, who was linked to a move to Manchester United all summer, admitted that he turned down a move to Old Trafford, as he wanted to remain in Europe’s top tier club competition.

He said: ‘Louis (Van Gaal) is one of the most intelligent men in football – and I knew of Manchester United’s interest in the summer.

‘It was flattering – but I am very happy in Turkey – and it is very hard to leave Champions League football.’
