Arsenal are set to make a January bid of £10m to bring Basel Centre-Back Fabian Schar to the Emirates.
The 22-year-old, who began his career at FC Wil before joining Basel in 2012, has been subject to interest from the Gunners for some time, but is finally set to leave Switzerland for England this January.
The versatile Centre-Back, who can also score goals, has been impressive for a few seasons in Switzerland, as well as good performances in the Champions League, including in Basel’s 1-0 win over Liverpool this season.
Arsenal face competition for his signature from a number of clubs, including German side Borussia Monchengladbach, but Arsenal is said to be the prefered destination for the 22-year-old.
The Gunners are currently suffering an injury crisis at the back after Mathieu Debuchy and Laurent Koscielny both picked up injuries earlier in the season.
Arsene Wenger currently has five first-team fit defenders and has already admitted that he may sign defensive reinforcements in January.
