Arsenal are plotting to make a staggering £50million bid for Paris Saint-Germain striker, Edinson Cavani.

The Gunners have been left fearing the worse regarding an injury to Olivier Giroud, and with scans set to be done today, it’s reported that he could miss the rest of 2014 due to a broken ankle.

The Frenchman went down after the ball hit him awkwardly in the ankle during their 2-2 draw with Everton, and it’s left the North London club short up front, with just Yaya Sanogo the recognised centre-forward.

Despite Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott, Joel Campbell and Lukas Podolski all able to play up front too, Arsene Wenger is now exploring the options of signing a new striker.

Cavani is high on Wenger’s wishlist and has always been a fan of the Uruguayan, and with his future at PSG uncertain, a Summer switch to the Emirates Stadium may be on the cards.

According to reports, PSG will allow Cavani to leave if the right offer is made, and it’s believed that Arsenal are prepared to spend up to £50m on the 26-year-old, hoping that that will be enough for the French side to accept.

Cavani grew unhappy in France last season due to being deployed on the wing, rather than up front, which was taken by Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
