Arsenal are favourites to sign Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa this January.
The Brazilian midfielder has scored six Premier League goals so far for Unai Emery’s side this season.
Since moving to Aston Villa from Manchester City in 2019, Luiz’s market value has skyrocketed from €10 million to €60 million in the last four years.
The 25-year-old midfielder has been linked with Arsenal in the past three transfer windows and his contract with Villa is not set to expire until 2026.
But Villa would demand in excess of €100 million for the midfielder and the club would refuse to do business with a rival at this stage.
But ex-Arsenal player Kieran Gibbs has suggested a potential swap deal for Douglas Luiz with forwards Emile Smith Rowe or Eddie Nketiah as options.
“It’s probably the best idea to go and get someone like Douglas Luiz,” he told ESPN. “You can swap players, there are deals to be done there for sure.
“There’s Emile Smith Rowe, there’s Eddie [Nketiah], there’s deals to be done there in this window. If I was to do anything I’d probably shore up the midfield and hope that in the second half of the season Saka, Martinelli and Odegaard come alive.”
