John Terry criticizes Diogo Jota’s controversial dive

Liverpool won 4-2 over Newcastle United in a thrilling contest at Anfield, but the post-match discussion was dominated by Diogo Jota’s controversial antics.

At 3-2, Jota, who had skilfully slipped past Newcastle United’s goalie, dropped to the ground theatrically following a perceived contact. Former Chelsea midfielder John Terry was unrepentant, calling it a ‘shocking dive’ on Twitter.

Referee Anthony Taylor initially awarded a penalty, which VAR upheld as there was insufficient ‘clear or evident’ proof to overturn it.

Terry, in surprise, slammed the decision, asking, “How on earth is that a penalty?” Shocking dive! The worst part is that VAR gave it to you?”

Despite the win, Jurgen Klopp may be left wondering why his team struggled to defeat a weary Newcastle side. The Reds established a barrage of 34 shots, 15 of which were on target. After his first penalty effort was saved, Mohamed Salah converted a penalty in the second half.

Meanwhile, Newcastle showed determination, and without the debatable penalty decision, the outcome could have been different considering the historical significance of this match.

Following the game, Liverpool increased their advantage at the top of the Premier League standings by three points. Despite the win, the focus stays on Jota’s controversial actions, sparking debate and leaving a bad taste.
