Arsenal didn’t sign an outfield player over the summer

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has backed his decision not to sign an outfield player this summer, despite the fans calling for a world-class striker and a holding-midfielder.

The Gunners were strongly linked with several stars throughout the summer, but after the window slammed shut, they were stuck with just Petr Cech from Chelsea.

Arsenal were linked with Karim Benzema from Real Madrid and Edinson Cavani from Paris Saint-Germain, but neither were signed leaving the club with just one out-an-out striker.

Speaking in his weekly press conference, Wenger backed his decision not to sign an outfield player.

Wenger Backs Decision

He said: “I have nothing more to say.

“I have made over 300 transfers and every time it’s a decision to make.

“Do you buy the player because he strengthens your squad or not?

“The solutions we had were not convincing at all.

“And in the end you do not buy to give one hope you want to buy because the players who come in can help your squad to be stronger.

“Buying and selling is one way strengthen the team but its not the only way.”
