Arsene Wenger not happy with Everton equaliser

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was left feeling unhappy at the full-time whistle yesterday after he saw his side concede a late equaliser to Roberto Martinez’s Everton, as he feels the goal shouldn’t have stood.

Gerard Deulofeu’s goal in the 86th minute shared the points, which was looking unlikely after Mesut Ozil gave the hosts an 80th minute lead, but after the game, Wenger revealed that he thought the goal was offside and he also thought that there was a foul in the build-up of the goal when Romelu Lukaku attempted a bycicle kick.

However, the Frenchman also gave praise to the youngster for taking the goal very well.

‘I think he was offside and he made a foul before the goal but the referee didn’t give it,’ said Wenger.

‘But it doesn’t mean that we have to concede the goal because of it.

‘Deulofeu, you have to give him credit. He took his goal very well. You have to accept it.’

The Arsenal boss was also left feeling frustrated at the tactics deployed by The Toffees as he felt that they were making some deliberate fouls which should have been punished by referee Howard Webb.

‘I believe the problem is that they put very good pressure on us when we got the ball back to stop our flow. We had problems to get into the flow of the game but when we got into the passing, they stopped us every time with a foul.

‘And I believe the disadvantage of applying high pressure is that if you are not winning the ball back, you can be outnumbered.

‘To make a foul without being punished by the referee is a huge advantage because after that you play ten against ten in one half again.

‘I feel overall that’s maybe a new problem for the referees because everybody puts pressure on the opponents high up (the field) and, of course, on the condition that if they don’t win the ball back they foul.’
