Arsene Wenger rules out signing trio

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has categorically ruled out signing the trio of; Danny Welbeck, Nikola Zigic and Radamel Falcao, despite confirming Oliver Giroud will miss up to four months with a broken leg.

The Gunners are now left with just Yaya Sanogo as a recognised striker, but it appears that Wenger is ready to use Alexis Sanchez as the lone-man up front, much like he did last night against Besiktas, where the Chilean netted the only goal of the game.

However, there had been reports going out that Wenger was looking into a new striker, and three names were popping up more than most.

Welbeck of Manchester United, Falcao of AS Monaco and a shock one of Zigic, who was released by Birmingham City this Summer.

After the game last night, Wenger was questioned about signing a striker, and he had this to say regarding the trio linked.

“Zigic? No.”

He also bluntly stated “No” when moves for Welbeck and Falcao were questioned.

“You will ask me straight away who we will buy. I give you the answer – at the moment, no-one,” Wenger added.

“If you want to make everyone happy you buy all of these players but what is important is the performance on the football pitch. If you look at the players we had on the bench and those out injured, we have players. You cannot buy every time a player is injured.

“We are open for any position as long as we feel the player can strengthen the squad. Buy to buy? I don’t see the purpose of that.”

The Frenchman then went on to confirm he brought Sanchez for a striker’s role.

“I bought him to play as a striker, not to only play on the flanks,” Wenger said.

“He had a good game, not only on the technical side but on the fighting side.

“He was mobile and dangerous and showed he has great fighting spirit – qualities which will be important in the Premier League.”
