Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has weighed in on the concussion debate which has been dominating newspapers in recent days, and the Frenchman has admitted that he would never put a player’s life in jeopardy if they have suffered a nasty head-injury.

The topic arised after Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris continued for Spurs last weekend against Everton, despite being knocked out by Romelu Lukaku.

Many people kicked up a fuss about the decision to keep the Frenchman on the field, but manager Andre Villas-Boas defended his decision at the time claiming that Lloris was fit enough to continue.

A similar incident happened in yesterday’s game at Old Trafford as Wojciech Szczesny got clattered by Phil Jones and was left unconscious on the floor.

However, after receving news from the medical team, Wenger continued to play the ‘keeper and insisted that after the game, if there was any risk, he would have removed the Polish international right away.

Wenger said: ‘I listen to the doctor. If he says to me he has to come off, he comes off.

‘No matter if we have seven men on the field, I do it.

‘You have only one life and you have 60 games per year.’

When asked if the doctor had told him Szczesny was fit, Wenger said: ‘No, nobody told me anything about him.

‘If he said there was a problem I would have taken him off.’
