Winger agrees new 3 year deal

Manchester United winger Ashley Young has today signed a new three-year contract with the club, with the option of another year on top of that.

Young impressed during Louis Van Gaal‘s debut season at Old Trafford having seemingly been set to leave the club last summer following the Dutchman’s arrival, coupled with signings that included Angel Di Maria and Juan Mata.

Young’s Fine Form

However, Young’s form saw him chosen ahead of Di Maria, who left the club yesterday to sign for Paris St Germain in a deal worth upto ÂŁ44 million, a ÂŁ15 million loss for United.

But he will not be seen as a loss to Van Gaal due to Young’s form of late, and he has impressed in a range of different positions for United including at full-back, wing-back and his more natural left-wing position.

The deal will keep the ex-Aston Villa wing man at the club until 2018 and will be worth £120,000 per week, as well as having the option of signing an extra year on top of that.

Manchester United kick-off their Premier League season at home to Tottenham Hotspur in tomorrow’s early clash, and Van Gaal spoke of his delight to get the deal done heading into the season:

Van Gaal Delight

He said: ‘We are delighted that Ashley has signed a new contract. Ashley is a very multi-functional player.

‘He took to the wing-back position with great confidence and flourished on the wing throughout last season. Ashley is always very professional and has a great presence in the dressing room.’
