Contract now runs until 2017

Manchester City have announced that manager Manuel Pellegrini has penned a new contract with the club, ending speculation that he was going to be replaced.

The former Malaga and Real Madrid boss will now remain at the Etihad until the summer of 2017 after agreeing a one-year extension to his current deal.

It puts to bed any rumours that were circulating about the Chilean’s future, with City fans becoming concerned after their lack of title and European challenge last season.

However, with the signings of Raheem Sterling and Fabian Delph this summer, it was clear the Blues boss had the confidence of his board to reconstruct his team this summer.

Pellegrini Statement

Pellegrini said: “I am proud to manage Manchester City and am therefore very pleased to have agreed this contract.

“I have a very good quality group of players and a great team of people to work with on and off the field and at all levels of the club.”

The majority of Pellegrini‘s closest backroom staff members have also been handed new contracts which gives City a more settled approach as they head into their Premier League opener with West Brom on Monday evening.
